Join us April 18 for readings by students from the Embodying Queer Stories Writing Workshop! This group of talented queer writers met every Tuesday in the lower level of our store and we can’t wait to hear what they’ve been working on.
Led by Jenni Milton, Embodying Queer Stories is a writing workshop by and for queer people, where writers working in a wide range of genres, from poetry to narrative nonfiction to novels, are empowered to honor their voices and experiences and to lead the discussion of their work. Jenni taught the inaugural class of this workshop in Fall 2022, and then again this past Spring with Blue Stoop.
About the Students:
Megan Baker is originally from Lexington, Kentucky. She's lived in Philly 4+ years and enjoys writing poetry, biking, going to the movies and having a beer with friends.
Theo Loftis (they/them) was born in the South and lives in Philadelphia. A curator, writer, and distiller, they work to expand and share inquiry through interdisciplinary projects that spark curiosity and connection.
Melisandra Paulson is a poet and artist currently living in Philly. She’s hoping to get her book, The Other Side of the Event Horizon, published soon.
Tova Perlman (she/her) is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and is now excited to be living on the other side of the state because the Amtrak access is much better here. She enjoys reading the New Yorker, writing reflective pieces, attending murder mystery parties and hopes to write her own murder mystery party in the near future. She is excited to have her debut in an author capacity.
Sam Savello (she/her/hers) is a writer, poet and marketer from Long Island, NY. Sam studied Hispanic Literature at Brown University, where she also wrote for the Brown Daily Herald.
Adiah Siler is a Creative Writing Junior at the University of the Arts. She participated in last fall's Embodying Queer Stories workshop at H&H and is so glad to be back.
About the Instructor:
Jenni Milton is a queer writer who studied at Connecticut College, Oxford University and the Columbia Publishing Course. After graduating, she worked in book and magazine publishing at One Story, Oxford University Press, and Grove Atlantic. She earned her MFA at the Programs in Writing at UC Irvine, where she taught composition, fiction writing and literary journalism. In her final year of the program, she was Fiction Editor of the Pushcart Prize-winning journal Faultline. She now works as a copywriter, teaches for Blue Stoop, volunteers at H&H Books, and plays violin with the New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra and the Roxborough Orchestra. She has published work in Juked and A Distant Memory Zine, has a story forthcoming with RipRap Journal, and is working on a novel.
