4th Dimension Poetry w/ Maryan Captan and Tyler Antoine

  • 2012 Sepviva St Philadelphia, PA, 19125 United States (map)

Poet Dorothy Laskey once wrote that "poetry is hard for most people / because of sound." And hey, she was onto something! No one ever said that writing a poem is child's play, except maybe that smarmy kid in your Creative Writing workshop with the horn-rimmed glasses and the snotty attitude, but who cares what that kid has to say anyway.

But don't worry! Thanks to the work of M.H. Abrams, who was once referred to as "an iconic name" on the back of his own book jacket, writers Maryan Captan and Tyler Antoine can help you learn what's come so easily to that brat in the front row by exploring THE FOUR DIMENSIONS OF A POEM.

What are those four dimensions? It's all in the words, baby. They're how the words look on the page. They're how the words sound when read. They're the meaning of the words. And, lastly, they're the act of reading the words aloud.

Join Captan and Antoine for a workshop where we'll all examine the dimensions of poems through writing exercises and casual conversation. Don't worry about bringing your own pen and paper, baby, because we've got you covered. Just bring that sweet brain of yours and all the words it's got shaking around inside of it. We'll take care of the rest.

When: Wednesday, August 12th 6-8pm

Where: 2012 Sepviva St. Philadelphia, PA 19125

Cost: Free for workshop members, $6 for nonmembers (click here to purchase)
